Portugal will host an F1 Grand Prix in Portimão from October 23 to 25 and ensure that there will be audiences in the stands.

Portugal are delighted to host an F1 Grand Prix again in October, which will take place for the first time on the Algarve international circuit and in the presence of spectators. « There will be spectators, » said Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism, on the TVI television channel, following the announcement of the Grand Prix being held in Portimão, in the south of Portugal, from October 23 to 25. « We are working on several scenarios, with more or less audience depending on the evolution of the health situation. »

The last GP in Portugal took place 24 years ago at the Estoril circuit, near Lisbon, on September 22, 1996, and was won by Canadian Jacques Villeneuve driving a Williams-Renault.

This new version of the Portuguese GP should not be the only one to welcome spectators this season. The Russian GP in Sochi, scheduled for September 25 to 27 in the Olympic Park of the Winter Games, will take place in public, its promoters have already indicated.
